Gala

This apple is the most widely grown apple in the world! It was discovered in New Zealand in 1934 and is a cross between Golden Delicious and Kidd’s Orange Red apples. Gala’s have a thin yellow and orange skin with red stripes depending on the apples maturity. This skin gives the apple a crisp taste along with a mildly sweet flavor. Its delicate flavor makes a great addition to salads, chutneys and even sandwiches. When cooked, the sweetness of a Gala becomes more mild making them great for baking.
